Planning for implementation
Following Newcastle City Council’s decision in July 2017 (see Developing the model), Newcastle City Council worked with the National Trust and partners to carry out detailed planning for a new, independent charity to care for the city’s parks.
- Determining the optimum legal structure for a charitable Parks Trust in Newcastle
- Fine-tuning the financial model for the new charity
- Collating and finalising the business case for the new charity
In November 2017, Newcastle City Council successfully sought agreement from Cabinet to establish a Parks Trust for Newcastle. The decision gave the Council permission to recruit the new charity’s first Chair and Board of Trustees and transfer care of 33 of the city’s parks and over 50 hectares of allotments to the charity (see Implementation for more detail).
